Hogwarts Legacy PS4 and Xbox One versions delayed again

Avalanche Software and WB Games have pushed back the release date of Hogwarts Legacy for the PS4 and Xbox One by more than a month, to May 5. The publisher chose to keep publishing the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game on February 10 while allowing developers extra time to optimize the new version for older hardware in December, which resulted in the last postponement for the previous-gen Hogwarts Legacy port. The role-playing game about Harry Potter. In the game, players can prepare a enough amount of Hogwarts Legacy Boosting Service.

This staggered release strategy has resulted in Warner Bros. attaching four release dates to Hogwarts Legacy. It has cashed in two of those so far and could still get three of the four, though this latest development doesn't exactly inspire confidence in that outcome.

As for the previously planned April 4 release date for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy, those ports have now been pushed back to May 5. A recent post from the game's official Twitter account says developers need more time to create the "best experience" on Sony and Microsoft's last-generation consoles. The wording of the statement suggests that the delay was caused by the relatively obvious optimization challenges associated with porting any technically ambitious open-world role-playing game to the Xbox One and PS4, both of which are now 10 years old. up.

Hogwarts Legacy was originally slated for a 2021 release, but suffered several major delays in the two years since its September 2020 announcement. This latest development has caused the PS4 and Xbox One ports of the game to suffer a total of three delays. While the official release date for the Switch version is in late 2022, it remains to be seen whether it will be able to achieve that if even the more powerful hardware from Sony and Microsoft proves to be an optimization challenge for developers.

The technology gap between the previous-generation platforms targeted by Hogwarts Legacy can be illustrated by the imperfect teraflops metric, which represents how many trillion floating-point operations a given system can perform per second. The PS4 leads with 1.84 teraflops, while the Xbox One and Switch have 1.41 and 0.5 teraflops, respectively. For context, the Xbox Series X boasts 12 teraflops, while the PS5 has about 10% less.

It's likely that the most recent Harry Potter game will lose some of its commercial momentum in the early spring as a result of this newly announced delay given that the installed base of the previous generation of consoles had a combined installed base of nearly 300 million units based on figures at the start of the year. The fact that Hogwarts Legacy has dominated the main market for three weeks in a straight and counting does not, however, diminish its current success.
